Power surge causes death of 7 month old baby.
The recent power surge in Ghana is very disheartening, most businesses are collapsing due to the abrupt power failures. Its very difficult to tell when a particular area will experience power outage as a result of inadequate or no information to the general public.
A seven month old baby in Kasoa Galilea in the Central region is the latest casualty of a fire outbreak following a power surge due to the frequent power outages in the area.
According to eyewitness, due to the power surge, the bulb in the room burst and the bed on which the baby was sleeping on caught fire.
The baby, died from severe burns and smoke inhalation at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
Residents of Kasoa Galilea accused Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) of failing to provide them with power for more than four days.
Mother of the deceased, Joyce Abgavitor who spoke on Joy News explained that she went out to fetch fire only to find smoke billowing from the room.
When she rushed to the scene, the lady said the fire was really raging so she could not enter to room to save her baby.
“I heard my baby screaming but there was nothing I could do” the distraught mother bemoaned.
Meanwhile, Eric Dorsese father of the deceased is demanding justice for the unfortunate death if his seven months old baby.
He blamed ECG for not adhering to the time table of the ongoing load shedding exercise.
Eric Dorsese appealed to help to help him bury his son.
